Spring Air, full of inspiration!

Well, it definitely seems as though sprung has spring here in the dreary Midwest. The grass is showing its first shades of green, and the trees are slowly evolving from their skeletal appearance to great green giants.

The next few weeks are some of my favorite of the entire year. The colors are so vibrant and the world just comes back to life with every intention of expelling my cabin fever.

It really makes me think deeper about my project with my partners from afar. This is an experience that not everyone gets to enjoy. The deserts of the south don’t get this awesome change of seasons; the tundra’s of the north are denied this as well. Here in the Midwest we truly get the full spectrum of Mother Nature’s abilities.

I wish I had more time for this project so I can display this thought. But I am forced to think on a less grand of scale and do what I can. Both partners have responded and are really excited to begin.

I am also considering my Etsy submission and that is just not coming to me. I’m not really a “physical object” person. I rarely make something you can hold in your hands. But maybe I will figure it out. UNTIL NEXT TIME!

Happy spring!

Around the world in the click of a camera.

So for our next project I had to find a partner that lives some distance away.(at least 2 hours) and do a photo set with them, using our environments to show our space and differences.

All in all the project seems pretty open-ended. I am taking it quite literally as a comparison and contrast of environments. I found two friends; one in Slovenia and the other in Holland. I am wanting to do a photo splice where I hopefully can show a near seamless transition in one photo from one place to the other.

This has presented countless problems I didn’t expect like, photo quality: being quite literally on the other side of the world makes communication hard, and I am sure that all three of us have differing photo techniques and cameras. What I plan on doing to solve this is take my pictures first, send them to my partners, and hopefully they will use my pictures as a template as to how the picture they take should look.

I am really excited about this one, hopefully all is well. this project definitely works against my motto: “keep it simple” but I’m sure it can work.

On to the next

My next project I’ve put in my sights is designing and submitting a desktop background to www.pixiegirlpresents.com this is one of the projects I looked forward to the most. But it comes down to how much I can chew. I frequently bite off far more than I can and find myself drowning in complicated work that ends up pulling me to wits end and ending in feverish research and endless doubt.

Idea #1: I have always loved the idea of looking into a computer and seeing how it works, but instead of a jungle of circuits and electrodes; what if you saw something completely unexpected? My first idea is to do just that, make the desktop look as though you are peering inside and what do you see? A hamster running on a wheel that is powering belts and gears and seemingly powering the computer. At first I wanted to go with a realistic look with a real hamster and gears. But as I looked around photo shopping those elements together would be REDICULOUS! So now I am considering doing more of an animation with fun color and “Seussian” like contraptions.

Idea #2: After playing with Illustrator for almost a year now I have really enjoyed doing distressed T-shirt-ish designs and such. I am considering doing this idea making it look similar to my picture I have done at the top of this blog…up there ^… yeah that’s it.

Idea #3: Was kind of thinking about playing with the idea of those doors in that old show with the guy who talks into his shoe…don’t hate me for forgetting the name at the moment. But how there is the sequence with all the shutting/opening doors. I was thinking that would be a fun play on the desktop to look like it is just the surface of a super locked mechanism.

More to come…

The days tick on…

So motivation has been attacking me from all directions.

I just started up a Flickr account at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jasonrspencer

Right now I have a photo set up from a bit ago when I decided to try my hand at some nature shots, I know border line cliche but I really had fun and think that some of it came out alright…go check it out and tell me what you think!

As of right now I have been experementing with all kinds of thinks mainly I have been playing around with Pop Art and figuring out Photoshop along with Illustrator. So far I have created these guys by taking them down to three layers (highlights, midtones, and Shadows) in Ps by using the “Select Color Range” feature and coloring each color range in on seperate layers. then moving those three layers into Illustrator where I live trace and rasterize them. creates a really cool effect, and keeps me on my toe with how to make a photo work.

These are photos of all of my friends, we call my house “Ronies Bar” (mom’s name:Joni  dad’s name:Ron)

well that’s all for now

To Sideways Eight and Beyond!

So things are really pulling together lately. I am making my way through school and finally reaching the point in my life where I am finally able to start chasing my dreams.

I leave for Mexico in 29 days exactly. To most people this is just a vacation destination but this is my first time abroad in a LONG time. I am so excited to see the beach and meet the people. ALSO! Its looking like I will be spending some of my summer in JAPAN! My school is offering a study abroad program that works perfect for me. I can hardly contain my excitement!

People are my biggest interest; everything from the internet meme phenomenon to religion, I just can’t get enough of how people work and why they work that way. Life is such a balance of flavors sweet, sour, bitter, and spicy. We all define out taste differently. It really is fascinating. But along with beauty man is ugly as well. My whole life my mom told me in order to appreciate the good you have to witness the bad. With man there is such a tight ying yang of love and hate. But if you are able to step back and view humanity from an objective standpoint and separate yourself, you really will find something absolutely fascinating.

Evolution is far more than a biological theory. It happens on countless levels in countless timelines. We all change and grow over time. I think this is going to be the subject of some of my next “art work,” looking back at who I was four years ago when I was sure I had the world figured out and hated every inch of it. And looking forward to what else I will learn and experience. This is still an extremely early draft of what will hopefully become a masterpiece HAHA.

Do me a favor, take a minute out of your day today and look someone straight in the eyes. Smile REALLY big at them and say something nice, anything at all. This is far from a new idea but someone complimented me today and it felt great. I think we should pay it forward and just try to make a nice moment for someone.

The end.

Awkward Hello…

•January 29, 2010 • 2 Comments

Well hello there world. Like so many of my generation I am far from new to the world of blogs. This is the dreaded “First Post” where I will act like an awkward pre-teen on my first date fumbling through random tid bits of information you don’t care about trying my hardest to get you to like me.

I would consider myself an artist…but that is a loose definition. I really just hate the real world and find the one between my ears much much more interesting. I grew up in a crazy household full of harsh truths but love as well. I learned to just take life lightly and try to enjoy it and I think that is the biggest influence on everything I do.

As of now I am the typical college student, working a part time job, just swimming through the surf trying to get to the ocean. I hope to one day make a name for myself in computer graphic design and marketing. Because lets face it, this boyish charm and good looks won’t get me everywhere in life.

Well now that we are pulled in front of your house, and the awkward silence has passed. I hope this is a somewhat accurate impression of me. See you next time 🙂 Jason
